Introduced into service by the VR in the late 1950’s to supplement the “KC” four wheel LCL container wagons, this class of 10x wagons were “E” and “S” wagons that were modified by extending their overall body length from 43 feet long to 45 feet long to enable them to carry 6x LCL containers. Initially restricted to 40mph speed, they were quickly upgraded to “F” status which allowed them to travel at 60 mph. In the mid 1960’s, they were further modified to enable them to achieve “X” status and be used on both broad and standard gauge systems. With the demise of the LCL container system, the “QCX” wagons were then transferred to tallow tanker transportation duties and subsequent departmental duties in the late 1970’s. Note that containers are not supplied with this kit.
